Is TEMU Legit? Why I am against the business model

Updated: 5 days ago

The Truth About Temu

Temu is one of the fastest-growing online platforms worldwide. But is it really legitimate? No, Temu is building a very questionable reputation: unreliable deliveries, incorrect orders, and poor customer service are just the tip of the iceberg. Behind the scenes, there are far bigger issues.

Unethical Business Practices and Sustainability Issues

Temu has been accused of violating consumer rights and bypassing EU regulations. It's not just about poor working conditions – the platform lacks transparency in its supply chains. Temu offers extremely cheap products, often at the expense of environmental and ethical standards.

European Organizations Sound the Alarm

In a joint statement, 59 European organizations urged the EU to close loopholes that allow platforms like Temu to operate without adhering to fair standards in the European market. It is unacceptable that such companies are not held to the same requirements for product safety, environmental standards, and sustainability as traditional European firms.

My Clear Stance Against Temu

Companies like Temu are damaging the market. The platform thrives on low prices, made possible through substandard products and opaque supply chains. This harms brands that invest in quality and sustainability. Temu pressures companies to lower their prices, ultimately compromising profitability and quality in the long run.

Why This is Dangerous

If platforms like Temu continue to dominate, it could undermine the reputation of sustainable brands and weaken the direct relationship between businesses and their customers. Temu increasingly becomes the main point of contact for customers, which diminishes brand loyalty.

The Facts Behind Temu’s Popularity

According to a survey by Dansk Erhverv, Temu is now the second most popular online platform in Denmark (and the third in Germany, Online Monitor 2024, HDE). One in three Danish consumers (one in four Germans, Statista 2024) shops on Temu, often attracted by low prices. But these low prices highlight a dangerous trend: sustainability is often sacrificed for cheap, fast consumption.

In Conclusion

It’s high time the EU enforced stricter regulations to ensure that platforms like Temu adhere to the same standards as European companies. Only then can we safeguard sustainability and fair business practices.
